The Rice Tape EP Is Out Now.
Who: Michael Quinlan, James Kendall, Alex Smith, Chris King
What: Largely instrumental punk/noise rock (FFO: Fugazi, Devo, Eagulls)
Where: Liverpool, UK
When: Long-time friends who formed in 2014. They brought out a five-track cassette titled The Rice Tape in May, spearheaded by the furious ‘Boil D Rice’ as your starter, serving up ‘Paul Is Sure’ as a meaty main, and rounding things off with the krautrocky sweetness of ‘Keshi Heads’ in homage to Liverpool legend Craig Charles.
Why: Absolutely deafening live shows. Their recent set supporting Protomartyr in Liverpool apparently featured ‘technical problems’, but they weren’t problems as far as I was concerned. Wonderful contrast of intricacy and sheer volume, interwoven with enough feedback to shatter every window of the Liver Building.
You can catch them on August 5 at the Bagelry in Liverpool, alongside fellow Scouse bands Bad Meds, Sheer Attack and Obey Lizard Rule.
