Belly of The Hopeless  EP Out Now.

Who: Psy Ceiling, Dan Demon and Beat Demon

What: Alternative Hip Hop (FFO: Massive Attack, Tricky, trip hop)

Where: Richmond, North Yorkshire.

When: This trio got together around four or five years ago with the aim of exploring the rawness of human emotion in rhythm and rhymes. Their debut album Dual Sides was released in December of 2013 and tackled heady topics like escapism, desperation and unity. Legendary hip hop collective Arrested Development love them, saying, “It’s great to hear hip hop with sincerity again.” Since then they’ve released a succession of singles and EPs including ‘Every Step’, a single released in conjunction with mental health charity CALM to help raise awareness of support available for the prevention of suicide and their most recent EP Belly of the Hopeless from which ‘Sundays’, streaming above, is gleaned.

Why: Socially conscious and ceaselessly passionate, Ceiling Demons epitomise an aspect of music that seems to have gone missing in 2016. They actually care about things outside their limited experience, and want to do something about it. Luckily, their tunes match their ambition as ‘Sundays’ shows with it’s jazz flute, laid back vibe, and perfectly selected sample. The track and EP marry grit with the trip hop tendencies of its producer Jonathon Swift. Apparently, the trio are quite the live experience too.
