British trio Brontide are often compared to Russian Circles, Battles and their ilk. That’s misguiding in relation to their newest offerings. Since their metal meets post rock 2011 debut Sans Souci they’ve melded into a proposition more akin to …And So I Watch You From Afar or maybeshewill. Urgent stabs of guitar driven forward by simple but insistent drumming and punctuated by soaring guitar leads are crafted into a danceable, infectious instrumental cacophony. Jazzy in places, their noise is controlled and concise. It’s upbeat post rock with intent.

Brontide is defined as, “a low muffled sound like distant thunder heard in certain seismic regions especially along seacoasts and over lakes and thought to be caused by feeble earth tremors”. Tim Hancock, William Bowerman and Nathan Fairweather’s collective noise certainly sounds as if it comes from the depths of the planet.

You can stream the entirety of their new album Artery at Clash. It will be released on June 30th via Holy Hoar Records. Their album launch takes place on the 26th June in Oslo, London. Buy tickets here.
