Scottish singer/songwriter C(hristopher) Duncan is increasingly sounding like one character to keep a solid eye on. “And I” is the b-side to “For”, Duncan’s debut single from his upcoming debut LP, set for release in summer 2015 via Brighton’s Fat Cat Records. Both tracks reveal a meticulous, nuanced, and emotive singer/songwriter, who already possesses a gravity that belies his age. While “For” bears a resemblance to Nick Drake, this track reminds of Jeff Buckley’s cover of “Lilac Wine”. You can download both tracks for free on Duncan’s Soundcloud page.
His meticulousness may stem from his training in formal composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Having said this, his music not particularly classically minded, but does contain evidence of a breadth of musical influence, and knowledge. Duncan is currently assembling a live band to translate his compositions to the live setting. Live dates will follow in the coming weeks.
