Debut EP Sickening & Deplorable is out now via Hometown Records.
Who: A singer that can’t sing, a mod that can’t play bass and a drummer that can’t see.
What: Punk (FFO: The Clash, Sex Pistols.)
Where: Derry, Northern Ireland.
Why: I was lucky enough to catch this trio back in October in Dublin and they tore the roof off the place. Playing a ferocious, political, and invigorating brand of punk, the group played as if it was their last gig ever. Topping things off with an incendiary performance of Them’s ‘Gloria’, I was left astounded by how tight the band were at such a young age.
At the time, I was gutted to find that they did not have any recorded output that I could get my hands on anyway. All that has changed with the release of their stonking debut EP Sickening & Deplorable. drawing on the no shit approach of early Clash material, it is a four song blast of punk that reminds you of what was so damn awesome about punk in the first place.
There’s also a liberal dashing of rock n roll, particularly on their track ‘Stay’ which is probably the most melodic offering on the record. While at the moment their output is not exactly super original, they energy and commitment suggests that they could be on to something pretty special.
