New Music: Mookhi – ‘Lacunae’

Check out the throwback video below.

Did you know that the word ‘lacunae’ means ‘an unfilled space; a gap’. Specifically in a manuscript. This latest track from producer Mookhi, certainly feels like it fills a emptiness. Sporting a stacatto beat, a beautifully simple chord progression, and a selection of fascinating field recordings, the track is one that does a marvelous job of being engrossing but not overbearing.

The video above is equally mesmerising. Constructed from old archival footage, the piece is a reminder of the success and foibles of humanity as it juxtaposes imagery of atomic bomb and stage performances among other such things. Beautiful but sad. Like life.
