The Agent Intellect  Is Out October 9th Via Sub Pop Imprint Hardly Art.

Detroit post-punks Protomartyr, fresh from a collaboration with Kelley Deal of the Breeders, have announced the release of their third album The Agent Intellect, due for release October 9th via Sub Pop imprint Hardly Art. To celebrate they have streamed the first single from the album, ‘Why Does It Shake?’. The album title, The Agent Intellect, is derived from a concept that originated in ancient and medieval philosophy. The theory was first posited by Aristotle, and deals with how the mind operates in relation to itself. It’s an extremely apt title, considering Protomartyr’s frequent lyrical explorations of the self.

Singer Joe Casey (a good solid Irish name) had this to say about the first single, ‘Why Does It Shake?’, “That was something my mom said one day out of the blue. I think she was asking about the tremors in her hand. It seemed like a valid question that really didn’t have an easy answer.”

Pre-order the vinyl at Hardly Art.

Overblown caught Protomartyr live at The Lexington in London last year, and they were epic. Scroll to the bottom of the post to see where you can catch them performing this year.
