Debut album Tactical Chunder is out May 3 via Lonely Voyage Records.
This is really quite odd. Chicago’s Space Blood are purveyors of some kind of instrumental avant garde math punk. This is for the craic though. There’s no heady concepts behind this, but more of a travelling circus/vaudeville kind of vibe. In fact, I’m going to go out on a limb and coin the name of a new genre. This is instrumental vaudeville rock. Yep. Sounds right.
We’re delighted to be premiering the duo’s latest video for oddball jam ‘Cemetery School’. You’ve really have to watch it to get an appreciation of the weirdness. Suffice it to say there is many bellies, bizarro masks, and some rather ‘inventive’ use of green screen.
The track itself is an exploratory and unusual adventure through chiming bass scales and thumping drums. It veers from one side of the road to the other with apparent glee and complete disregard for convention and sense. In short, it is more fun than a bag of fun loving, but irate, badgers.
Apparently, this is replicated with vigour in the live setting which the band describe as “a unique show experience with elements of absurd comedy, improv, and campy antics that will leave you wondering what you just saw while still wanting to see more.” Which is all good in our book.
