SPC ECO – ‘Under My Skin (ECORE Mix)’ | Overblown Track Premiere

SPC ECO

The Under My Skin EP is out now.

Rose Berlin. What a voice. Never histrionic or overly dramatic, it is a tender and nuanced voice that can communicate a lifetime’s worth of emotion in one note. Of course she is one half of SPC ECO (pronounced space echo) with her father Dean Garcia (formerly of Curve). On the duo’s track ‘Under My Skin’ he did an ace job of providing a simple but effective accompaniment for her lilting and vulnerable tones, providing just enough background without overshadowing the foreground.

Personally, I thought the track was as close to perfect as conceivable. But then along came this ECORE Mix by Olivier Gérard of Indochine. The trick is that what he adds serves the song instead of drowning it. The additional drums, keyboards, guitars, and programming add depth and drama to an already weighty number without forcing the track into melodramatic schmaltz. Easier said than done, the track now soars into a cathartic denouement that mixes despair and hope in equal measure.

The Under My Skin EP came out on February 10th. You can pick it up via Bandcamp.
