New album Nyctophilia is out now via Club AC30.
Apparently, nyctophilia is a preference for the night or darkness. Who knew? Turns out, I am a nyctophile. Of course, I already knew about my love of the serenity of the night time but it is nice to put a label on it.
There’s not really much that is nocturnal about Taffy though. The Japanese alternative/shoegaze quartet have a sound that is coloured in and stereoscopic. Recent release ‘Murkiii’ is a good case in point. Possessing a driving rhythm section and a wonderfully playful and melodious chorus, the track is drenched in brightness and light. Beginning with a deft chug reminiscent of the Smashing Pumpkins circa Mellon Collie, the track quickly veers off into more frisky pastures avoiding any kind of oppressive Corgan-isms.
The video, which we are premiering below, is equally light hearted. The video follows the antics of what appears to be a cosplaying/roleplaying couple who work their way through a number of various scenarios before somehow winding up in Vegas. Maybe everyone ends up in Vegas in the end.
