Why Choose  Out Oct 2nd Via Fat Cat Records.

It’s pretty simple really. Jittery drums, a plucked melodic bass line, a hyper tense guitar line, and a critique of the internet age. Sounds pretty punk to us. That’s generally the gist of East London punks Shopping’s latest single ‘Why Wait?’, the first single to be released from their sophomore album Why Choose, out via Fat Cat Records in October. Listen to it above.

“The hyperactivity of the song comes from the kind of fidgety feeling you get when you feel like you wanna watch three YouTube videos at once whilst talking to someone and reading an email while also watching a .gif and riding a bus, ” says bassist Billy Easter of the track. “It’s a song about wanting to break out of, but also being a product of a consumerist, globalized, hyperactive and impatient world – being consumed by a system whilst also harboring an intense desire to freak out and consume everything at once – an insatiable desire to satisfy every greedy whim; to go on some kind of crazed shopping spree then throw it all into the river.”

The band say of the new album, “We wanted Why Choose to have the same feel as our first album but with an even sharper edge. Our main focus was still to have fun and write some songs that would get people dancing but there is also a darker undertone to this record – mostly we are singing about rejection, frustration, fighting, fleeting relationships, wasting time and losing money but there is also a kind of wildness and fun – a liberated freak out of a shopping spree that we really hope people can identify with.”
