Alt Rock: Iress Share New Track ‘Underneath’

Iress’ new album Flaw is set for release in September.

Hailing from Los Angeles, the alternative rock quartet Iress are a formidable proposition. Their brand of alt rock is melded with sludge metal, shoegaze and intensity in a style similar to the likes of Chelsea Wolfe and in particular her Hiss Spun album from 2017.

‘Underneath’ is the second single to be released from their upcoming second album Flaw. It is a slowly unfurling track consisting of equal parts beauty and an imposing sense of foreboding. An impressive combination of vocal intimacy with an ambitiously cavernous sound, the song is one that demands close listening. It is all the more rewarding for that. Stunning.

The track follows the first single from the album ‘Shamed’. A combination of sludge and shoegaze, the song is perhaps more immediate than ‘Underneath’. Taken together, these two songs suggest a debut album that will be confident and powerful.
