AURORA Covers Nat King Cole’s ‘Nature Boy’, London Gig

Debut EP Running With Wolves Out Now on Decca Records

Without labouring the point, I absolutely love vocal jazz legend Nat King Cole. I genuinely think that he possessed the greatest singing voice that has ever graced this earth. I’d probably take his greatest hits to a desert island. His version of ‘Nature Boy’ is the definite version, but 18 year old Norweigen Aurora Aksnes is running him a close second with her interpretation. Her ‘Nature Boy’ is stripped back beginning with a sole, gentle vocal, before climaxing with layered synths, acoustic guitar, and cello. Gorgeous.

Aurora had this to say of the track, “The song is about having the animal instinct inside you come to live. With this song being about wolves, running with them, joining them – This instinct taking over, gives you freedom, but it also makes you forget about your human self, something in the eyes have changed, and you start acting in a more…. weird, creepy way. I think humans need to let go a bit more, shake their bodies more often, like the animals do. Embrace nature, not destroy it to build cities and extinct species. It’s a beautiful thing really, Just in this case it awakens something dark in us as well. Sometimes when you look at the world, and you see what we’ve done to it, the way many of us hurt innocent animals, even our own kind!! It kinda makes you wanna follow the wolfs instead. At least for one night.”
