‘Demolishing The Fourth Wall’ Is Out September 23rd Via EDILS Records.
Upbeat misery. This is how I’ve heard Newcastle’s Baker Island described. A wonderfully apt account of the quintet as the group, led by Sean Dodds, are experts in detailing humdrum torment through a lens of enormous guitars and even bigger hooks. Their new single,’Demolishing The Fourth Wall’ premiering below, is a perfect example of this dichotomy. Lyrically, the track laments decisions made and the consequences of these decisions (“What would be different now? / Would I be the man of the house?”) while musically the song is a fuzzed up lo-fi indie pop joyfest full of major chords and major choruses. Basically, what Baker Island excel at is showing how live is both merry and miserable at pretty much the same time.
