Band Of The Day #3: Pacific Heights

pacific heights breath and bone

Debut Album The Stillness  Out Now.

Who: Devin Abrams

What: Cinematic Synth Pop (FFO: Daughter, Polica)

Where: New Zealand

When: ‘Breath and Bone feat. Dianne Krieg’, streaming via Soundcloud above and via YouTube below, is the third single taken from Pacific Heights’ debut album The Stillness released on May 25th of this year. Pacific Heights is Abrams’ first project since he left Shapeshifter, the drum and bass act he was a member of for fifteen years and with whom he made his name. It marks quite a departure for the producer as he delves into the subtle and melodic nature of a Daughter-esque soulful synth pop.

Why: Pacific Heights encompasses a wide breadth of influences. Electronica, big-beat, trip hop, pop, soul, and jazz all mix together and a wide screen palette. The sound is also warm and inviting, encouraging and rewarding multiple listens. Basically, Pacific Heights straddles that tight rope between immediacy/emotion, and technical prowess. No mean feat.
