Debut LP Provisations Out Now
Who: Mattias Phillips!
Where: Przemyśl, Poland
When: We don’t know a whole lot about this fellow. What we do know is that Mattias (his real name is in fact Maciek) began playing violin and piano at twelve, that this is his debut album and it was released at the start of July this year. It is an album that contains short impromptu tracks called ‘provisations’ by Phillips as the tracks are based on improvisations but not quite completely composed on the spur of the moment.
Why: Because Phillips’ music is absolutely beautiful. Delicate, serene, and yet wonderfully defiant in places, his stripped down piano compositions betray a deep melancholy that is at once graceful and intensely forlorn. This is music that is on a par with the most prominent neo classical artists of today and deserves to be acknowledged as such. Listen and you will not be disappointed.
