New Music: Cruel World Share Debut Single Boxer

Leeds based Cruel World are a new band made up of some familiar faces. Their name has been cropping up on some festival lineups lately such as the incredible Blue Dot Festival at Jodrell Bank Observatory and Kendall Calling. They recently made their live debut supporting Karl Blau and will soon be supporting Lucy Dacus. All very notable and impressive for a band that hasn’t released a single note of music. Until now that is, have a listen above to their debut single ‘Boxer’.

It’s always an interesting and slightly weird experience hearing new music from individuals working together when you’re already familiar with their previous work. It’s never quite what you expect to hear, no bad thing I suppose, music would be dull it always delivered what you think you want to hear. ‘Boxer’ is far more accessible than I expected. Its appeal is immediate and it’ll rattle around your little head for days to come. The band say they often sound a little like Wilco which seems entirely reasonable. At least now there’s some music in the public domain we can make our own minds up. We’re off to a good start. Feels like I’m falling again.
