Daedelus – Onward – Play It Again, Sam

Daedalus - Onwards

Mournful and Haunting

Daedelus, aka Alfred Darlington, has crafted a real beauty here. “Onward” is a soft, lullaby-like song with vocals provided by Young Dad. It’s mournful, it’s haunting, it’s just a little bit creepy.

“Onward” is taken from Daedelus’ upcoming album The Light Brigade, which is apparently the successor to his Righteous First of Harmony EP (2009). That EP was inspired by the Boxer Rebellion while the new album recalls the Crimean War of 1853-56.

Some might call this heady subject matter pretentious, but surely music inspired by history is preferable to lowest common denominator tunes about clubs, money, and tits and ass. Not to mention lyrically vague songs that reference some nondescript pain or all encompassing love.

The Light Brigade will be released September 29th via Brainfeeder.
