Ah, Buzz Records. The Toronto home of a shit load of awesome bands: Greys, HSY, The Beverleys, Weaves, to name just a few. And also Dilly Dally. A couple of days ago the grunge/pop quartet released a video for their pretty much epic track “Candy Mountain”. To me it sounds like The Pixies fronted by a quite inebriated Patti Smith. Throughout the song, Katie Monk’s off kilter, oddball vocal delivery remains tuneful yet interesting and is the perfect juxtaposition to the more restrained and focused instrumentation.
The video itself features copious amounts of glitter and slow motion. It’s quite 90s in its lowkey abstract settings and indoor trees. Extra points because Monk wears a super Napoleon Dynamite-esque tiger tee at one point. Reminds me of my friend Geary’s shirts when we were teenagers. I like to imagine that he still has a closet full of them; one for every day of the week.
