What to expect at FORWARDS Festival 2024

FORWARDS Festival in Bristol

FORWARDS Festival, the two-day spectacle set to take over Bristol’s Clifton Downs between August 31st and September 1st, returns in 2024 with an almighty lineup

Renowned for its progressive approach to music and social initiatives, the lineup for 2024 is as diverse and eclectic as the city it resides in. Marking the end of the British summer, FORWARDS will close the festival season with a bang, featuring a genre-spanning international music programming, alongside timely debates, local food and beverage, and a future-thinking kids’ area.

Loyle Carner is set to headline on Saturday, sharing the honours with Four Tet. Known for his raw and personal on-stage persona, will be performing his biggest Bristol show to date. The London-born hip hop artist, fresh from his major headline show at London’s All Points East in August 2024, will be well-fit with contemporary curators at FORWARD

Sunday will see New York dance-punk legends LCD Soundsystem closing the weekend at Bristol Downs. This will be James Murphy & Co’s first Bristol performance in 14 years, bringing their genre-blending electronic soundscape back to the city as part of the band’s 2024 global tour.

Forwards will also see performances from a diverse host of artists including Maribou State, Floating Points, Romy, Greentea Peng, Yussef Dayes, Yard Act, Baxter Dury, CMAT, Nubya Garcia & Hak Baker.

Tom Paine, Co-founder of Team Love, expressed his pride in the festival’s growth and evolution. “FORWARDS is back for its third year, and we couldn’t be prouder. Each year it grows, evolves and delivers even more for the city of Bristol and beyond. From an international and genre-spanning music lineup to future thinking talks, initiatives and with a growing-in-popularity kids area, FORWARDS is the perfect day out for everyone.”

Jim King, CEO, European Festivals, AEG Presents, echoed this sentiment. “We’re thrilled to be bringing FORWARDS back to the Bristol Downs for its third year. Offering a packed lineup of international music acts with headliners LCD Soundsystem and Loyle Carner, supported by the likes of Maribou State, Floating Points and Yard Act. The two-day festival will also see timely debate and conversation on the information, providing an important platform for discussion and will be featuring a host of experts, disruptors, creatives, writers and thinkers.”
