Girlpool Announce London Scala Gig, Share New Video

Los Angeles Duo Share Video For Album Title Track ‘Before The World Was Big’

Lo-fi post punks Girlpool are epic at music videos. Their video for the delicate ‘Chinatown‘ portrayed the playfulness of the endearing relationship between band members Cleo and Harmony, while the video for ‘Plants and Worms‘ (from last year’s self titled EP), was a psychedelic and trippy adventure.

Now, the group are treating us to a retro video for album title track ‘Before The World Was Big’. Speaking of the new video for the album’s title track, director Allyssa Yohana said: “I wanted to put Cleo and Harmony in a space of complete childhood wonderment—Coney Island—and let their pure love shine through. There are few things as special as love for your best pal, and it was an honor to document their universe, and to invite others into that universe, too.”

The ladies have also announced a new London date on September 15th at The Scala, undoubtedly due to their burgeoning popularity. I’ve never really heard anything like them. In terms of their willingness to be punk by playing music that eschews punk’s tropes, they remind me of 80s San Pedro legends Minutemen who were essential in pushing boundaries, and playing the music game by their own rules.
