The Split EP Is Out Today On Limited Vinyl And Digitally Via MUZAI Records.
Edward Hopper, who was a prominent American realist painter and print-maker, once said, “Art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in his personal vision of the world.” If this is true the inner lives and visions of the world of both Auckland folk/industrial/no wave quartet Girls Pissing On Girls Pissing and Christchurch industrial/post punk group Log Horn Breed must be very disturbing indeed.
Their split EP simply entitled Split, out today via MUZAI Records, is an extremely unnerving and uncomfortable listen. Log Horn Breed’s six contributions to the collaboration are brutal and unwavering. Discordant guitars and bellowed vocals assault the senses while the cavern deep rumbling bass and at times thunderous drums aim to steer the tracks in a somewhat identifiable direction. The result is a set of imposing tracks that challenge the listener’s boundaries and endurance.
Meanwhile, Girls Pissing On Girls’ three contributions are somewhat more restrained but no less unsettling. Their tracks brood with an insidious menace crawling through a murk of thudding bass lines and dissonant guitars. Simply, none of this is for the faint of heart but those brave enough shall be rewarded with an intriguing and nihilistic journey.
