London has always been a hotbed for excellent music. With their latest single ‘Why Reduce Yourself’, premiering exclusively here on Overblown, Indietronica outfit Goodbye Stranger aim to continue this tradition. In December they released their debut single ‘Cave’. The more EDM influenced track was well received by the music community and featured on BBC’s Introducing programme. This new track aims to take more traditional indie staples like echoey guitars and laconic vocals, and marry them with a more electronic centred approach. The result is a dreamy, laid-back track that is at ease with itself, and effortless in its execution. It draws to mind B-Town darlings Jaws, but with a more streamlined and polished approach.
“We were messing around with a sample pad and an old song and something just clicked and we managed to get it written and finished within 20 minutes”, says the band. “We have loved playing it, ever since. When we went to record it we were lucky enough to witness our singer, George, battle with the falsetto singing parts and unmixed/unedited he sounded like a little Japanese girl. ”
In October, the band headed to Spain for the Monkey Week Festival, and have played in many of London’s classic venues like the 100 Club, The Borderline, The Barfly, and the O2 Academy Islington. If they can keep this up, the venues and festivals can only get bigger.
