In Celebration of Record Store Day: Live From High Fidelity

Today is April 18th, and for many of our readers at Overblown, this date means you’ve probably been awake since an unreasonably early hour (for a Saturday) in order to hunt vinyl. And what better way to celebrate wax, and its steady comeback through the age of MP3s and streaming sites, than to listen to a podcast entirely dedicated to this wonderful world of vinyl. For nearly three years, L.A’s Tom DeSavia and Eric Gorfain have been spending one Sunday a month piecing together a podcast discussing their love of all things vinyl with a special musical guests who then share a few live songs at the end of each session. Aptly titled Live From High Fidelity, each show is taped at a tiny record store of the same name. The guests have included performers such as  Benmont Tench (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers), Glenn Phillips, and Sean & Sarah Watkins, and producer Glyn Johns. Each podcast can be streamed free of charge on iTunes, and to celebrate Record Store Day this year, DeSavia and Gorfain are releasing their second LP (via Omnivore Recordings) of musical highlights from each show on an album, titled “Live From High Fidelity: The Best of Podcast Performances, Vol. 2”. So listen, enjoy, and take a listen into what some of the industry’s vinyl fanatics have to say about this resurrected format for musical enjoyment.

“Live From High Fidelity: The Best of Podcast Performances, Vol. 2” is available on vinyl via Omnivore Records on April 18.
