Indietracks runs from 28-30 JULY 2017 at Midland Railway, Butterley, Derbyshire, UK.
Fair to say that Milky Wimpshake are definitely no strangers to Indietracks. As we speak they’re currently in the middle of a U.S. tour where they’re playing venues with the most wonderful names such as The Void, Gooskie’s, Consolidated Cardboard, Glitter Galaxy, Dad Motel, Space Cloud and Silent Barn. Sounds more like a tour of the levels of a Super Mario game to me. That they keep coming back to Indietracks means that Milky Wimpshake are reliably brilliant. Here’s out hero Pete Dale on the stand:
Overblown: What are your favourite memories of Indietracks and what does it mean to you to be playing again in 2017?
Pete: We played in 2008, 2011 and 2013, all 3 gigs were great and I’ve been every year since 2013 just to soak up the vibes and enjoy the music and company and so on. Every year there has been exceptional acts like Dean Wareham, Humousexual and Martha that attract my urge to come!
O: At Overblown we love a cover version. If you had to play a cover of another artist from this year’s bill which band and song would it be? (And will you consider actually doing it?)
Pete: We did an Onsind cover on our last album, who are pretty intimately linked to Martha I think it’s fair to say. I’m a massive fan of Shopping but probably couldn’t pull off a cover…
O: Similarly, if you were to choose a song of your own to be covered by another band on the bill which song and band would it be?
Pete: Mebbe Cowtown doing ‘Sexual Deviant’?!?
O: There’s always a great indie disco to be had after the bands finish playing. What song would you request and are we likely to find you on the dancefloor?
Pete: V. likely to find me on the dancefloor. I would request the hideously obscure ‘One Summer’ by the Moss Poles or, slightly less obscure, ‘Where’s Me Jumper’ by Sultans of Ping
O: Bum Notes Karaoke with Ruby Waters is a great night and will be at Indietracks for the first time this year. What’s your go-to karaoke song and can we expect to see you singing it?
Pete: I don’t do karaoke
With so many great bands playing tell our readers why they should choose to come and see your set.
Pete: Well, they needn’t feel obliged – just come if you like!!
Milky Wimpshake play Indietracks Festival on Saturday 29th July. We’ll see you all there.
