Indietracks runs from 28-30 JULY 2017 at Midland Railway, Butterley, Derbyshire, UK.
Part of the charm of any festival worth it’s salt is the opportunity to discover new bands combined with screaming along to bands that you already love. This year’s Indietracks line-up will offer you exactly that. You’re probably not familiar with Luby Sparks who are coming all the way from Tokyo to bless your ears with fuzzy indie pop. That’s a long, long way so the least you can do is crawl out your sleeping bag and stagger down to the Indoor Stage on Sunday afternoon to hear them, they’ll be delighted to see you. By the Monday the post festival blues will be kicking in but you’ll have that cosy feeling flowing through your bones because you’ve discovered a couple of new favourite bands. Luby Sparks could well be one of them. Here’s Natsuki from the band answering our questions:
Overblown: What have you heard about the festival and are you excited to be visiting for the first time?
Natsuki: I’ve heard about Indietracks from my Japanese friend has often been there. Of course, we’re very very excited! This is also our first time to play at the festival.
O: At Overblown we love a cover version. If you had to play a cover of another artist from this year’s bill which band and song would it be? (And will you consider actually doing it?)
Natsuki: We’re big fans of Joanna Gruesome. Their songs were any great influence on us, so we’d like to play their ‘Lemonade Grrrl’. But probably we’ll not do because I couldn’t catch the lyrics…
Actually we have a cover of the legendary performer of Indietracks Camera Obscura’s ‘Lunar Sea’ by our fuzzy arrangement. It’s including on the latest 7inch single ‘Hateful Summer’ (definitely we’ll bring!) as B side. Maybe we’ll play that one.
O: Similarly, if you were to choose a song of your own to be covered by another band on the bill which song and band would it be?
Natsuki – As you know, we hope Joanna Gruesome will like our songs and play! It sounds too good to be true for us.
O: There’s always a great indie disco to be had after the bands finish playing. What song would you request and are we likely to find you on the dancefloor?
Natsuki: I’d like DJ’s to play ‘Christine’ by The House of Love.
O: Bum Notes Karaoke with Ruby Waters is a great night and will be at Indietracks for the first time this year. What’s your go-to karaoke song and can we expect to see you singing it?
Natsuki: All of us are very shy, we’ve never done the karaoke together. But I wanna sing Placebo with the help of alcohol. Please don’t expect…
With so many great bands playing tell our readers why they should choose to come and see your set.
Natsuki: We are playing on the indoor stage! It’s a bit early, but this is really our first time to play in the outside of Japan. In short, it’s a rare show! If you like jangly/noisy guitar-pop like Joanna Gruesome, please come to see us. I hope you’ll like our music. So now I practice MC in English.
Luby Sparks play Indietracks Festival on Sunday 30th July. We’ll see you all there.
