Indietracks 2017 Interview Series #20 – Shopping “Restraining Order”

Indietracks runs from 28-30 July 2017 at Midland Railway, Butterley, Derbyshire, UK.

Let’s all go Shopping at Indietracks! This can mean one of two things at the festival. First of all it can mean the merchandise tent where you can swap money for all sorts of brilliant stuff. Please do this. Support the bands selling their records and shirts. Support the record labels. Support the craft stalls. Simply put, just don’t go home with money in your pocket. Secondly you can go and dance your ass off to the magnificent band Shopping. Last time I saw them in Glasgow was at a Ruby Waters karaoke night and it was about as much fun as you can ever imagine having without a DVD of the Great British Sewing Bee. Amazing scenes. Here’s Andrew from the band to answer our way too familiar questions:

Overblown: What have you heard about the Indietracks Festival and are you excited to be playing for the first time?

A- That’s right we haven’t played before but almost have! Very excited to finally make it happen this year! Lots of pals playing and i can’t wait to hang out

O: At Overblown we love a cover version. If you had to play a cover of another artist from this year’s bill which band and song would it be? (And will you consider actually doing it?)

A- ooh we have quite varied taste in the band… Maybe ‘Dialling Tone’ by Milky Wimpshake for me? Lovers Not Fighters is one of my favourite albums.

O: Similarly, if you were to choose a song of your own to be covered by another band on the bill which song and band would it be?

A- Skinny Girl Diet doing any of our songs would be sick.

O: There’s always a great indie disco to be had after the bands finish playing. What song would you request and are we likely to find you on the dancefloor?

A- if you want all of Shopping to dance you need to play Britney Spears’ ‘Till The World Ends’, but if it’s gotta be Indie disco vibes throw some x-Ray Spex on or the Slits please!

O: Bum Notes Karaoke with Ruby Waters is a great night and will be at Indietracks for the first time this year. What’s your go-to karaoke song and can we expect to see you singing it?

A- I have a restraining order out on Ruby cos she keeps stealing my money to buy bras and snazaroo face paint BUT if I was to attend I would probs do ‘Life’ by Des’ree as I deeply connect with the lyrical content of preferring toast over seeing a ghost

O: With so many great bands playing tell our readers why they should choose to come and see your set.

A: We aim make it a dance party!

Shopping play Indietracks Festival on Saturday 29th July. We’ll see you all there.
