Indietracks runs from 28-30 JULY 2017 at Midland Railway, Butterley, Derbyshire, UK.
It’s extremely rare for any moments of sadness to come out of a weekend at Indietracks. Last year that did happen when news came out that Fortuna Pop were calling it a day. Over the years they’ve released countless records by bands that fit the exact ethos of the festival and who have graced its various stages over the years. One such band is Chorusgirl who’s wonderful debut album came out on that very label. Up steps Silvi from the band to be the next victim of our Indietracks interview series:
Overblown: What are your favourite memories of Indietracks and what does it mean to you to be back playing again in 2017?
Silvi: Yes, we played in 2015. We had just finished up recording the last couple of songs of our debut and had an absolute blast. This year, we’re in the middle of recording the second album, and we’ll have more songs and have played quite a lot in the meantime. So if we were babies last time, this time round we’ve definitely grown into fully fledged teenagers, and Indietracks is our sweet sixteen and prom night all in one.
O: At Overblown we love a cover version. If you had to play a cover of another artist from this year’s bill which band and song would it be? (And will you consider actually doing it?)
Silvi: I’m an extremely reluctant coverer. But I have a lot of love for ‘I Don’t Wanna be a Horcrux for your Soul’ by Suggested Friends, ‘Vacation’ by Charmpit, ‘I’m not Your Problem’ by Peaness, ‘Nice Fez’ by Schande, ‘Strength in my Legs’ by Mammoth Penguins, ‘Without a Backing Track’ by Kid Canaveral and ‘Bubble in my Bloodstream’ by Martha, amongst others. They’d all be contenders.
O: Similarly, if you were to choose a song of your own to be covered by another band on the bill which song and band would it be?
Silvi: It would be so cool if someone could work out ‘Sweetness & Slight’. We’ve never played it live.
O: There’s always a great indie disco to be had after the bands finish playing. What song would you request and are we likely to find you on the dancefloor?
Silvi: I think as a band, we’d all very happily jump along to anything by Witching Waves.
O: Bum Notes Karaoke with Ruby Walters is a great night and will be at Indietracks for the first time this year. What’s your go-to karaoke song and can we expect to see you singing it?
Silvi: Faith and I recently enjoyed duetting ‘Running up that Hill’ by Kate Bush. Two beautiful Kate Bush’s; with less problematic political views than the original.
O: With so many great bands playing tell our readers why they should choose to come and see your set.
Silvi: We’ll be tighter, with more songs than last time and look extremely forward to playing. The sunset slot on the main stage just before the headliner; it’ll be beautiful.
Chorusgirl play Indietracks Festival on Friday 28th July. We’ll see you all there.
