Jack White's Keyboardist Ikey Owens Dies

Ikey Owens, keyboardist for Jack White and formerly of the Mars Volta, has died. Owens was on tour in Mexico with Jack White at the time of his death. The news was broken by Third Man Records via their website:

It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah “Ikey” Owens. He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans.

Ikey Owens was an astounding keyboard player in Jack White’s backing band. He also played with Mars Volta, Free Moral Agents, and many other projects.

Out of respect for Ikey, the remaining shows of the Jack White Tour in Mexico have been cancelled.

We will all miss you Ikey. You were and are an incredible artist.

Isaiah “Ikey” Owens made his name as the longest serving member of the Mars Volta outside of Cedric Bixlar-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez appearing on all their records up to 2008’s The Bedlam In Goliath (he was credited on 2009’s Octahedron but didn’t actually play on it). He joined Jack White’s band in 2012, and appeared on both of the former White Stripes frontman’s solo albums.

Outside of the Mars Volta and Jack White’s band, Owens also played with Free Moral Agents, Look Daggers, and De Facto, while also appearing on records by Mastodon, Saul Williams, and El-P.
