Upcoming Album Gubba Set For Release On August 25th
Jonathan Boulet has released a second new track, “Set It Off”, from his upcoming third album Gubba. It sees the continue of his departure from indie pop to a more QOTSA-esque bass heavy aggression started with the first single from the album “Hold It Down”.
The song, which is only one and half minutes long, is a rollicking barnstormer quite reminiscent of Queen of the Stone Age’s “Feel Good Hit Of The Summer”. The album promises to be quite a sudden and extreme departure from his electronic-based, poppy first two albums 2009’s self-titled record and 2012’s We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, See The Heart.
In an interview with We Talk, You Die, Boulet explained the change saying, “Since the beginning we’ve always been trying to make our shows louder and heavier. I figured the most direct way to do it is to have music that lends itself to that territory.”
Gubba has been entirely self-produced by Boulet and sounds like it’s going to be a scuzzy, fuzzy, treat. It will be released on August 25th via Pop Frenzy.
