Last Friday saw the launch of “Thro’ The Emerald Lens” exhibition, as part of the launch of Canalaphonic Music+Arts Festival in Dublin south city centre. Hosted by festival organisers Abner Browns Barbershop in Rathmines, the exhibition is a collective of 7 Irish/Ireland-based live music photographers and focuses on the metal/rock/alternative music genre.
Curated by Fi Killeen of BluePrint Photography and ex-GalleryX Dublin curator, the exhibition highlights the array of talented photographers in the country; the vibrant metal and alternative music scene in Ireland and the spirit of ‘do it yourself’ attitude of this non-mainstream musical community, whether it be bands, independent concert promoters and music-loving photographers alike… echoing the spirit of the Canalaphonic Festival itself.
Photographers involved include:
Fiona Killeen, Steve Dempsey, Ken Coleman, Damien James O’Farrell, Dani Kammler, Shane J Horan, and Bella Thomas….and some of the bands depicted include Mourning Beloveth, Primordial, WIFE, Doro, Down, Amon Amarth, Sick of It All, Chelsea Wolfe, Combichrist, Vader, Mass Extinction, Mael Mordha and many more.
Nestled amongst the wall-hung guitar collection in Abner Brown’s Barbershop in Rathmines, south Dublin city centre, the exhibition has now announced that it will extend it’s run beyond the 2 days of the actual Canalaphonic Festival and will finish up next Saturday 1st October at 6pm.
