Ever hear an album title and you can pretty much tell straight away you’re going to love it? Wakefield’s Mi Mye have announced their new album The Mountain Forces the Future, and the Force Causes the Rain will be released through Coble Records on 28th September. That’s it. I love it already. Admittedly it helps that Mi Mye’s previous album The Sympathy Sigh was one of the most beautiful indie/folk records of the last few years. It’s not like I’m taking a gamble loving a record that I’ve not yet heard.
The biggest clue of this imminent love affair has landed in the shape of the first single ‘Ok, So’, a piano led gem that just meanders at a perfect pace. Mi Mye’s music contains this wonderful ability to sound humble and gentle. Jamie Lockhart’s vocals carry a certain sincerity, an honesty, they make you feel like you’re listening to someone you could immediately trust with anything. Wonderful.
Back to the album name. It turns out the mouthful has something to do with two mountains back where Jamie comes from, Skerray, which is about as far north in Scotland as you can get. Those mountains are called Ben Loyal and Ben Hope. These names reflect nicely what I think Mi Mye might be all about. They would also make for a nice album name, Loyal and Hope. Maybe I’ll keep that one for myself. In the meantime, go enjoy Mi Mye.
