New Band of the Day #116: Matt Katsis

New EP As The River Runs is out on October 3rd.

Who: Matt Katsis

What: Indie folk

Where: Mlebourne, Australia.

Why: Matt Katsis takes a distinctly modern take on his combination of blues and folk. Songs are imbued with a heartfelt gravity anchored by his warm and cathartic baritone. Inspired by a warm reception when playing live at family functions, Matt has since grown into a confident song writer culminating in the release of his warmly received debut EP The Burke & Wills Sessions last year.

Now he is back with the follow up, As The River Runs. Katsis says, “This EP as a whole pushed me further as a songwriter and led me to cross new territory, using a wider use of instrumentation and taking a closer look into song arrangement.” Inspired by recent a recent trip to Nashville, New Orleans and Memphis, the EP sees him incorporating new instrumentation such as the mandolin and percussive elements. We’ve had a listen and it is a gem.
