New Band of the Day #178: Butterflies Welcoming Spring

Butterflies Welcoming Spring

Self-titled new EP out now.

Who: Two lovely boys from New Zealand.

What: Post rock/post metal.

Where: Christchurch, New Zealand.

Why: Considering there is only the two of them, this post rock/post metal outfit from New Zealand make a hell of a din. ‘Bloodlines’ is a cathartic and soaring 9-minute slice of visceral emotion and thunder. Calling to mind the likes of Explosions in the Sky but with a distinctly heavier drumming approach, the song swoops and dives with a controlled adventurousness that is hypnotic. Vocals act as a shade rather than the focal point of this beautiful and ugly tour de force. Listen at night with a good set of headphones.
