New Band of the Day #218: Hexcut

Hexcut

Debut EP Factory is out now.

Who: Torsten Jensen – Piano, Rhodes & Synthesizers, Sean Clarke – Bass Guitar, and Richard Entwistle – Drums & Percussion.

What: Jazz/math-rock.

Where: Bristol, United Kingdom.

Why:  Math rock is all about fiddly and widdly guitars, right? Not for Bristol trio Hexcut. They’ve evidently said, “fuck it” and decided to do away with guitars in favour of a warm and jazz-tinged piano-led attack. Underpinning this approach is some funky as all hell bass and drums that make one want to shake the old booty. Check out their track ‘Align’ below. The lead track from their debut EP, titled Factory, it is a slow burner that leisurely unfurls into an urgent and hypnotic venture into infectious dexterity.

Catch them at ArcTanGent this summer.
