Debut album Agent Blue out June 9th via Kanine/Luxury/Through Love Records.
Who: The band met while competing at an open mic night. Felix Skorvald (guitars), Lucas Gustavsson (guitars) and Emilie Alatalo (vocals) played Joy Division covers against Josefine Tack (bass, vocals) and Arvid Christensen (drums). Inevitably, they ended up bonding in the end over a mutual love of Joy Divison and Slowdive.
What: Self identify as death pop which is a mixture of goth, dream-pop and post punk. (FFO: Alvvays, Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast.)
Where: Gothenberg, Sweden.
Why: Just take a listen to ‘Rote Learning’ below. Combining the simple melodic synths of goth music, the washed out fuzz of dream pop, and the general mood of post-punk, it is a swaying and gently propulsive number that suggests that, despite the chorus of “We don’t know what the fuck we’re doing”, they very clearly are quite on top of what they’re doing. The track is the first to be released from their upcoming self-titled debut album, which is set for release on June 9th via Kanine/Luxury/Through Love Records.
Another track on the record is ‘(Don’t) Talk To Strangers’. Heavily featuring a washed out guitar but this time with a hint of jangle to it, the track shows the groups adept knack at wringing out splendid hooks and a sound that seems to somehow be both weighed with emotion and simultaneously light and breezy.
