New Music: Girlpool – ‘It Gets More Blue’ | Music Video

New album Powerplant due on May 12th via Anti- Records.

Who is excited for the new album from folk punk duo Girlpool? The delicate lo-fi tenderness of their debut album Before The World Was Big was one of our favourites of 2015, so we are definitely on the hype train for this one.

They’ve just released a video for new track ‘It Gets More Blue’. Sharing a similar intimacy to much of the material on their debut album, this track distinguishes itself from those songs by displaying more abstract lyricism (“The arsonist tells you that it gets more blue / The things you believe and the quiet bedroom snooze”) than the directness of BTWWB. Their sound has been cleaned up a tad too, and there’s added guitars and drums too. However, this does not detract from their endearing vulnerability, but does give the music a bit more momentum.

“Cleo and I just were driving down the New Jersey turnpike when she mentioned that it might be exciting to expand our sound for the new songs,” says Harmony Tividad (bass, vocals). “The songs we were writing had the potential of getting really climactic,” adds Cleo Tucker (guitar, vocals). “I think percussion adds a new part of the musical dynamic that we want to explore.”

Make sure to pre-order Powerplant via Anti- Records.
