New Music: MOLLY – ‘Glimpse’

New EP, Glimpse, is out on 1st December via Dalliance Recordings.

There’s a wonderful mixture going on in the music of Innsbruck-based duo MOLLY. Ostensibly a shoegaze/dream pop group, the band also imbue their music with the gentle and slowly developing/enveloping nature of post-rock. The result is a lush and dense sound that is filled with a cinematic emotional heft. There’s also a confidence in the music that belies their young years.

The video for the song is equally beautiful, melancholic, and dramatic. Depicting an older man out on a rowboat in the middle of a lake, it appears that he is distressed and having strong words with someone. However, there is no one else there. Is he arguing with a ghost? Arguing with himself about his past? Or is it just the pain and guilt of having lived so many years? Whatever it is, it is remarkable.
