New Music: ShitKid – ‘Tropics’

Debut album Fish out on June 2nd via PNKSLM Recordings.

Sweden’s ShitKid, aka 24-year old Åsa Söderqvist, is an interesting proposition. Combining a lo-fi muddiness with an undeniably deft ear for melody, her music is both sweet and sour.

Take new single ‘Tropics’ for example. Ostensibly a simple and catchy track composed of a simple guitar riff and an electronic drum beat, its ease is off set by the somewhat fuzzy and harsh production with causes the song to reverberate with dissonance like a really melodic bee buzzing around the listener’s head. The result is a song that pulls you close and pushes you away in equal measure. Luckily, we love mixed messages.
