Silence is Golden
We at Overblown are full sure that all our avid readers can recall the unrivalled awesomeness of Mick Jagger and David Bowie’s music video for their 1985 cover of Martha and the Vandellas’ classic “Dancing in the Street”. Comprising entirely of dodgy dancing, gruesome gurning and amazing costume choices, the video has thawed many a cold hearted viewers disposition. Of course, all of this epic weirdness was for a good cause, as it’s recording and release was in aid of the Live Aid charity movement which was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. The song was a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching number 4 in the UK and number 2 in the US.
Well now, thanks to YouTuber Mario Weinerroither, there is now a version of the video for “Dancing in the Street” with the original audio track removed and with added choice sound effects. Inexplicably, this makes the video even more hilarious which doesn’t really seem possible. Click the link below to bear witness to the spectacle.
Bowie released his first new album in ten years in 2013. Entitled The Next Day, it received mass critical acclaim upon release and entered many charts around the world at number 1.
The Rolling Stones’ last album, The Bigger Bang, was released in 2005. They will tour Australia and New Zealand in October and November 2014 to perform dates that have been rescheduled from earlier on in the year due to the untimely passing of Jagger’s partner fashion designer L’Wren Scott.
