Vashti Bunyan to release new album, Heartleap
The Edinburgh based cult folk singer has announced that her new album will be released on 6th October via FatCat in the U.K. and on the 7th October via DiCristina in the U.S. This will be her third album following her 1970 debut album Just Another Diamond Day and 2005’s long awaited follow up Lookaftering. The album was written and produced by Bunyan alone in her home studio and a number of studios in England, Scotland and the U.S. This is in contrast to Lookaftering which featured Joanna Newsom, Devandra Banhart, and was produced by Max Richter.
Her Joe Boyd produced debut album, who also produced albums by Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, and R.E.M., was inspired by her two year adventure to the Scottish islands in search of an artistic commune that Donovan had supposedly set up there. She made the trip with her partner Robert in a horse drawn carriage. While Donovan had moved on by the time Bunyan arrived, she had written the bulk of Just Another Diamond Day on her travels. After the lukewarm commercial reception to Just Another Diamond Day, Bunyan retired from music. The album slowly garnered a cult following which encouraged Bunyan to come out of retirement to record a second record. Her debut album is considered a classic of the English folk revival movement of the 60s and 70s.
To coincide with the album relase, Bunyan will tour England. The tour begins in Birmingham on 7th October and ends on 12th October in Manchester. It includes two nights at the St. Pancras Church in London.
