Marika Hackman announces new album with release of ‘Hanging’

Marika Hackman announces Big Sigh with Hanging

Singer-songwriter Marika Hackman has dropped her latest single, ‘Hanging’, alongside news of her fourth album, Big Sigh, landing in January next year.

Showcasing the rawer and more intimate side of her songwriting ability, the new track chronicles the stages of a breakup, beginning with her voice and a solemn piano, only to lead to a crushing outro that culminates in a chorus of grunge guitars and wails.

This new album announcement follows previous single, ‘No Caffeine’, and will mark her first new record of original material since 2019’s widely acclaimed Any Human Friend.

Speaking about the song’s themes, Hackman says that the line “‘yeah you were a part of me, i’m so relieved it hurts’ is describing how painful it still is to break up even if it’s not right”, and really highlights the anguish felt in the contrasting halves of the song with the dramatic dynamic shift separating the two.

The constant evolution of Marika Hackman’s music is something that has continued to win her followers since the release of her debut album, We Slept at Last in 2015, and based on these early teasers, this trajectory looks to continue with the release of Big Sigh.

Big Sigh will be released on 12th January via Chrysalis Records.
