‘Mr Music’ Video Directed By Darren Hayman.

Pete Astor, previously of The Loft and The Weather Prophets, has graciously decided to premiere his video for ‘Mr Music’ here at Overblown. The track, which will feature on an upcoming full length album on Fortune POP!, will be released as a coloured vinyl 7″ as part of the label’s singles club. The track was recorded with Robert Hoare, of Veronica Falls and The Proper Ornaments, who contributes guitar, bass, drums, and backing vocals.

“Me and Darren just thought it would be really good to do a video that had the minimum of story and just had me moseying about, singing the song and showing everyone some of the books and other stuff I liked,” said Pete about the video. The video reflects the track itself as it is a stripped back track that’s melodies and lyrics are more suggestive than overt. It is a descendent in a long line of such music, stretching from Astor’s work with The Loft and The Weather Prophets in the 1980s on Creation Records, through his solo work of the 1990s, and his more electronic based work with The Wisdom of Harry and Ellis Island Sound on Matador Records, Heavenly, and Peacefrog.

Astor is also Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Westminster. 2013 saw the publication of his  study of Richard Hell and the Voidoids’ Blank Generation as part of Bloomsbury’s 33 1/3 Series.  As one of England’s most revered songwirters and performers, we are honoured to premier the video for his track ‘Mr Music’.
