New Album The Hope Six Demolition Project Is Out April 15th Via Island Records.
Legendary British singer/songwriter PJ Harvey has shared the first single from her upcoming ninth album The Hope Six Demolition Project. The sees the inclusion of saxophone, hand claps and group vocals added to Harvey’s trade mark, minimal alternative rock style. The album, which was recorded with producers Flood and John Parish, was recorded last year in residency at London’s Somerset House. The ‘Recording In Progress’ exhibition saw Harvey, her band, the producers, and engineers recording behind one way glass, observed throughout the process by the general public.
The album is the product of numerous journeys Harvey took to Kosovo, Afghanistan and Washington, D.C. over a four year period. “When I’m writing a song I visualise the entire scene,” says Harvey. “I can see the colours, I can tell the time of day, I can sense the mood, I can see the light changing, the shadows moving, everything in that picture. Gathering information from secondary sources felt too far removed for what I was trying to write about. I wanted to smell the air, feel the soil and meet the people of the countries I was fascinated with.”
