Debut Album It Was Never About Me Out Now.
Lo-fi post-rock? Sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, no? However, this is exactly the route Brisbane, Australia’s Maison Hall. have taken on their debut LP It Was Never About Me. The album was recorded as a duo in a dilapidated hall in Queensland over the course of six days. Consisting of just guitar, drums, and vocals with no overdubs, the size of the sound created is astonishing. Album closer ‘Plain Life Pt.1’ showcases the group’s simple and yet dense approach with aplomb. Considered tension, and deft alterations to simple riffs allow the track to build to a measured and yet chaotic conclusion. One can only imagine what these would come up with in a half decent studio. Remarkable.
