Boulder, Colorado. What image does that conjure in your mind? I’m thinking tumbleweeds, dustbowls, and banjos. But then again, I was born and raised in Ireland so I could be completely and resoundingly off the mark. At any rate, Boulder is where The Ridgelings hail from, and their brand of pop/folk fits neatly into my image and so I am loath to question it. “Same Old Truce” is their latest single/demo and is a shiny, bouncy, banjo ridden slice of earnest pop/folk; as they say, it sounds like “Ryan Adams meets Old Crow Medicine Show”. The quartet have been generous enough to allow us to premiere the song here on Overblown and personally, I like it.
Another thing I dig about the band is that instead of searching and grappling and suckling looking for a record deal in order to fund their debut album, they’ve taken matters into their own hands and started a Kickstarter campaign. If all goes to plan, the record will be released in January and called Hard Winter Rations. It promises to be equal part barn dances, moonshine, and shoot outs.
If you want to donate some fundage to their worthy cause, you can access their Kickstarter site here.
