Royal Blood Cover The Police’s ‘Roxanne’

Whether you think Royal Blood are the “saviours of rock” or not, it is undeniable that they create a ferociously huge sound. Their enormous combination of furious bass,, and pummeled drums has been impressing crowds all over the place. So much so, that their self-titled debut album went straight to number 1 in the UK, and was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize.

This makes their choice to record a cover of The Police’s classic ‘Roxanne’ for BBC’s Live Lounge quite an intriguing one. The Police are a much more abstract, nuanced, and intricate prospect. How would their approach work through Royal Blood’s thunder?

Watch the Royal Blood version of ‘Roxanne’ above, and let us know what you think. Is it any good?

I love the original and was expecting this to be really bad. I’m nicely surprised I must say. I love the fact that instead of just doing a cover of the song, they created their own version, which I like quite a lot.

This song has got me into some drunken states over the years… Love this cover. Actually one of the best live lounges I’ve heard in a wee while. Intense, bluesy brilliance.

I was not sure of this track at first. Kind of growing on me now. I’m not too enamoured with Royal Blood. They make a ferocious noise, but other than that. Meh.
