Debut Album Mantra Out September 16th on CD, digitally & vinyl.
It’s getting to crunch time for Chicago based synth rock quartet Sunjacket. It’s just a few weeks from the release of their debut album Mantra and, as they told us, they’re pretty damn excited about it. Today, we have the honour of premiering the latest track to be released from the record, ‘No One’s Around You’.
Drawing on their wonderfully adept manner of combining the organic with the electronic, the song is built on a simple synth line and a subtle drum beat. There’s a sense of paranoia and isolation to the track through lines like, “They’ll get you thinking that no one’s around you, no one’s around you”, which give the track an ever so slightly claustrophic atmosphere. This is offset by the warmth in the recording as fuzzed up guitars are introduced to the synth base which adds depth and humanity to the song.
The album was engineered/mixed/co-produced by Fraser McCulloch of Brooklyn band Milagres and recorded at Earth Analog in Tolono, IL and The Loft (Fraser’s home studio in Brooklyn, NY). T-shirt bundles are available with each format and anyone who pre-orders will receive immediate downloads of ‘Creepy’, ‘No One’s Around You’, and ‘Not Enough’. Mastering was handled by Joe Lambert who’s worked with Animal Collective, Pet Shop Boys, Torres, & Dirty Projectors.
