THUMPER – ‘AFL’ | Video Premiere

‘AFL’ will feature on THUMPER’s upcoming new EP.

I wonder do Dublin noise pop outfit THUMPER know that in the teaching profession ‘AFL’ stands for ‘assessment for learning’. I imagine they couldn’t care less. Just so you know, ‘assessment for learning’ is “the process of seeking and interpreting evidence for use by learners and their teachers to decide where the learners are in their learning, where they need to go and how best to get there.”

So where are THUMPER in their learning? Where do they need to go? And how best do they get there? It seems to us that they’ve pretty much mastered their brand of lo-fi noise pop. Displaying influences from the likes of Husker Du and Dinosaur Jr, along with nods to their peers in Otherkin, their sound is rambunctious and defiant. Great craic.

Well, they’ve polished up their sound a bit for this new track. While I loved the lo-fi grime of their previous work, this is a welcome change as it expands their melodies somewhat. Hopefully, they remain as dirty as filth live. Let’s hope they just keep on doing what they’re doing. We’re lucky to be witnessing the chaos.
