Kitsune is the Japanese word for fox. In Japanese folklore they are intelligent beings that possess magical abilities. As such, this is an appropriate label for Spanish instrumentalists Toundra to give to the first track to be released from their upcoming record IV. It recalls a flood of influences. At times drawing on Pink Floyd meanderings, Middle Eastern odours, prog noodlings, and metal in it’s sheer power, the track careens and veers like Dr. Gonzo on his way to Vegas in the Great Red Shark after too much ether. The band will be touring the UK in February next year. IV is out on the 26th February via Superball Music.
he band had this to say about the track: “This was the second song that we wrote. It was written between Madrid and the mountains of Bejar, where we did most of the demos of the album. The Japanese myth of Kitsune has been an important reference to connect the songs. From all the different myths connected to the fox that we have known within the last months, Kitsune is by far the most interesting due to his connection with taking care of the forests and small villages. This myth ended up being influential to the whole album, as it can be noticed in the artwork.”
